Cyclone Arnab intensified into a cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal on October 26 and is poised to make landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast on October 28, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Odisha’s Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Saturday that the state government has reviewed the cyclone’s potential impact and assigned specific responsibilities to departments to achieve a zero‑casualty target.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh minister G Ravi Kumar directed power utilities to take precautionary measures to keep electricity supply uninterrupted as the storm approaches, the ministry said Sunday.
The name Arnab, proposed by Bangladesh, sits among 169 names submitted by 13 countries that the World Meteorological Organization uses to label tropical cyclones in the North Indian Ocean.
Officials will reassess the storm’s trajectory on October 27 and issue a new advisory as it nears the coast, the IMD added.
