Police in Anandpur Sahib filed a criminal complaint against Amarjit Singh Chawla on August 21 under sections 64, 127(2), and 351(2) of the Indian Penal Code. The filing cites allegations that a woman from Sangrur district, now residing in Bahrain, was held captive and raped at a serai in the town.
The complainant claims Chawla crossed all limits during the encounter and demanded she be declared "Panth Dokhi."
Chawla has denied the accusations, calling them false and fabricated.
SGPC officials responded by suspending granthi Malkit Singh of the Akal Takht and driver Mohan Singh, while SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami ordered a detailed inquiry into the matter.
Political fallout intensified as MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali demanded resignations and an impartial probe into alleged misuse of SGPC resources.
Acting Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gadgajj said the case is under investigation and that those found guilty will face consequences.
Police confirmed the investigation is underway and evidence is being collected, with a formal charge sheet expected soon.
