The council’s decision follows a six‑week consultation that drew 6,374 individual responses, 4,733 of which came in pre‑formatted templates from community groups.
Four major extensions were scrapped: Well End, slated for 3,750 homes; Mutton Lane in Potters Bar, earmarked for 1,750; Compass Park in Bushey, planned for 802; and Battlers Green Farm in Radlett, which could have added 450.
Despite the cuts, the revised Local Plan still authorises 14,390 net homes from 2026 to 2041, with Borehamwood and Elstree together slated for 3,413, followed by Potters Bar at 3,049.
The plan entered formal consultation on October 8, giving the public until November 19 to submit representations. Afterward, it will return to the full council for a vote before being forwarded to the Planning Inspectorate.
A Borehamwood resident, Priya Patel, said, "The removal of Well End feels like a win for our community, but we still need more roads and schools to keep pace with growth."
Council officials emphasise that the changes do not preclude future applications; developers can still submit proposals that meet the updated criteria.
