The arrest of Yashaswinee Raje Singh came as the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar was sealed off, with more than 40,000 Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces deployed.
The protest, led by founder Abhijeet Dipke, demands the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Earlier this week, Dipke and his co‑conveners were reportedly seized inside an aircraft after arriving at Delhi airport, and independent journalists, YouTubers and reporters say they faced detainment while trying to cover the demonstration.
Vikram Singh, who represented Fatehpur Sadar in Uttar Pradesh, said on X that his daughter was "abducted" by the police and that the encounter was a "political move" to silence CJP supporters.
Delhi Police, citing Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, say they were enforcing restrictions on gatherings and that Singh was "detained for sitting in a park"—a claim that is disputed by her followers.
Lawyers for Yashaswinee have filed a petition for a hearing, and the Delhi High Court is expected to schedule a session next week to examine the legality of her arrest.
