Raghuram Yamarthi and his wife Shaal booked a Hyderabad‑to‑Atlanta flight that was canceled after his malignant brain tumour diagnosis.
Despite repeated follow‑ups, their refund request was ignored, so they filed a complaint with the Hyderabad District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission‑III.
After Raghuram’s death on February 24, the commission allowed their children, Revanth and Rachna, to be impleaded, and after a hearing declared Qatar Airways and EaseMyTrip jointly liable under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
The court awarded a refund of ₹1,86,168 with 12% annual interest, ₹1 lakh compensation for mental agony, and ₹20,000 for litigation costs, totaling ₹3,06,168.
Both firms must pay the full amount within 45 days or face enforcement action, while the Yamarthi children hope the verdict delivers justice for their father.
