The march, which cut through the heart of Delhi, saw the opposition leaders converge on the Supreme Court to file a petition challenging irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Police officers stationed along the route observed the crowd from a distance, opting for restraint rather than force, a decision echoed by former Intel Bureau Special Director Yashovardhan Azad who said large gatherings demand careful handling.
The joint petition, signed by Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Akhilesh Yadav, Mamata Banerjee, Tejashwi Yadav, Supriya Sule, Sanjay Raut, D Raja and M A Baby, accuses the Election Commission of manipulation that could skew forthcoming elections.
While senior journalist R Rajagopalan praised the police for maintaining order, political analyst Sanjay Jha warned that the unity of the opposition could pressure the court to act swiftly. The Supreme Court is slated to review the petition on 5 October, with a decision expected within two weeks.
