In a heated phone call, BJP MP Ravi Kishan tried to calm and taunt a party corporator after heavy rain flooded parts of Gorakhpur—using the caste‑coded honorific ‘Brahmin devta’ while addressing Vishwajit Tripathi, a BJP corporator who had raised concerns on social media.
Tripathi, who had previously been elected on a Samajwadi Party ticket, posted several videos on Facebook criticizing Kishan’s lack of action and accusing him of politicizing the crisis; he pointed out that flood‑water regulators at Tarkulahi and near Palm Paradise were not functioning properly.
BJP’s regional general secretary Satendra Sinha said disciplinary action would be decided by the party committee and that the heavy rainfall was a natural calamity; he urged the issue be raised on the party forum rather than on social media.
Samajwadi Party district president Brijesh Gautam responded, welcoming complaints against BJP policies and noting Tripathi’s past party affiliation, declaring the party’s doors open to those dissatisfied with the ruling party’s handling of the crisis.
The party will convene a disciplinary hearing in the coming week to decide Kishan’s fate, while local officials reassess water‑regulation failures and work to restore normalcy in affected areas.
