Paritosh Ladhani, joint Managing Director of Sincere Developers and the Taj Agra hotel’s managing director, posted on LinkedIn on May 28, 2026 that a guest had physically assaulted waiter Kanti at the restaurant. The guest, whose name remained undisclosed, slapped the waiter after a miscommunication in Hindi and English. Ladhani said the incident shocked him and prompted immediate action.
Kanti, a 28‑year‑old from a farming village near Agra, had been working at the hotel for three years. He chose not to report the assault, saying he feared losing his job and that his livelihood depended on maintaining a good relationship with the management. His silence highlighted the power imbalance between staff and high‑spending guests.
Ladhani announced that the offending guest would be blacklisted from all Taj properties for life the following day. He emphasized that “no one, regardless of wealth or influence, has the right to abuse hotel staff.” The manager added that the hotel would review its staff‑guest policies to prevent future incidents.
The LinkedIn post amassed more than 2,000 likes and 200 comments in a few hours. Guests praised the hotel’s stance, while former employees recalled similar incidents in other chains. The post also sparked a broader conversation on employee dignity and safety in the hospitality industry.
The Taj Group has stated it will issue a formal apology to waiter Kanti and will conduct a review of its guest conduct protocols. Industry bodies are expected to issue new guidelines later this month, citing the incident as a catalyst for change.
