The Mumbai Crime Branch interrogated Professor Suryanarayana Doolla for nearly ten hours on 20 September, focusing on the confrontation that allegedly took place in the examination hall on 18 September before Sahil Wakode returned to his hostel.
The interrogation zeroed in on the 12:30‑12:45 pm window, when the student was reportedly caught using a phone and was asked to leave the hall, a claim the professor denied while denying any caste‑based remarks.
Meanwhile, a wave of unrest has swept the campus, with students staging a hunger strike and presenting an 18‑point charter demanding an independent inquiry, the resignation of Director Shireesh Kedare and the suspension of Doolla amid accusations of harassment from the victim’s parents.
Forensic teams have seized Sahil’s two mobile phones, laptop and tablet for data extraction, while CCTV footage from the hall and hostel corridor is being matched against the professor’s account to establish what, if any, threat or intimidation occurred post‑exam.
The institute’s governing body is expected to convene a committee later this week to evaluate the findings and determine whether institutional sanctions or criminal prosecution should follow.
