Vineet Minocha, 63, was found stabbed 26 times in his Kanpur flat on September 5, 2026. The body lay in a pool of blood in the bedroom, discovered by his son Subrat and wife Shalu when they returned around 3 am after a night out.
Subrat and Shalu had been partying with their child, leaving the house empty. When they came back, the police were called and a murder investigation began.
Shalu allegedly hired Vishal Gautam, a former employee, offering him ₹6 lakh to kill her father‑in‑law. She provided a duplicate key and promised payment: ₹2 lakh the day after the murder and ₹4 lakh fifteen days later.
Police seized a newly purchased SIM on September 3, the day before the killing. Call logs show six calls from that number to Subrat between May 1 and September 5.
In addition to Shalu, Subrat, Vishal Gautam and Raj Kishore were arrested. Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal said investigators are examining Subrat’s possible involvement.
The case has shocked a small circle of neighbors who recall the family’s nightly gatherings. The investigation continues as authorities interrogate Subrat and review the call records.
