On Tuesday, BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari posted a scathing reply to Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s X message that urged India to learn from Albania’s court‑burning protests. He called the remarks "dangerous" and accused the Congress of encouraging anarchy.
Raut’s original post described crowds in Tirana setting fire to the Supreme Court, attacking parliament and government offices, and striking ministers’ homes. He urged India to follow their example, attaching the national flag to his words.
CR Kesavan slammed Raut, likening him to a “modern‑day Mir Jafar” and claiming the MP’s language betrayed constitutional institutions. Sidharth Yadav questioned how glorifying attacks on institutions could strengthen democracy, demanding clarity from the opposition.
In Tirana, 13–14 October, students and demonstrators torched government buildings and banks, demanding Prime Minister Edi Rama’s resignation amid corruption allegations and a controversial coastal development linked to U.S. interests. Police used tear gas and water cannons to quell the unrest.
A protester at the scene said the fire was a reaction to corruption and rising tuition costs, describing the unrest as a stand against elite privilege. The European Union urged authorities to respond proportionately, while the Albanian government condemned the violence.
The BJP plans to file a formal complaint with the parliamentary committee, while the Congress denies the allegations and labels the accusations as political mudslinging. The complaint will be reviewed in the forthcoming parliamentary session.
