Jamui police shot Ganauri Yadav in the leg and detained him on Tuesday, cracking a 23-year-old murder case that had eluded law enforcement since 2003. The arrest was a direct spin-off from the ongoing investigation into the molestation of a minor girl, where Ganauri's son, Nandan Yadav, is the prime accused. Ganauri was named in the first information report (FIR) registered in April 2003 for the killing of two brothers in Pratappur village, a case where he had gone absconding during trial proceedings.
The investigation team, already focused on the Nandan Yadav case, traced Ganauri’s location following his son’s recent custody. Police reports indicate he was cornered in an encounter where officers opened fire to neutralize the threat before taking him into custody. The court has already convicted and sentenced the other co-accused in the 2003 murder, leaving Ganauri as the final fugitive in that specific case.
Nandan Yadav was arrested days earlier for allegedly molesting a minor girl and assaulting her male friend, an incident that triggered widespread outrage after a video of the mob harassment circulated on social media. Seven individuals were named in the chargesheet for the molestation charge. The victim’s father has demanded severe punishment for all accused, alongside government support for his daughter’s education and financial aid. The incident has also escalated into a political controversy, with opposition parties in Bihar targeting the ruling BJP-led state government.
