On September 15, a sudden blaze tore through the Damone family home in Chavhat Galli, Belagavi, killing six residents, including 58‑year‑old Gajanan Damone.
CCTV footage recovered by Belagavi Police shows an unknown man arriving at 1:58 a.m. with a bucket, and then leaving the scene at 2:00 a.m. without it.
Investigators are probing an electrical fault and reviewing whether the bucket could have sparked the fire, while forensic teams examine the home’s wiring for evidence of a short circuit.
Belagavi Police are canvassing the neighbourhood, questioning residents and reviewing footage from adjacent houses, in a bid to identify the bucket‑bearing stranger and rule out foul play.
A preliminary forensic report will be filed by early October, after which the case may be forwarded to the State Crime Investigation Department for a deeper probe.
