A video purporting to show a ghost on the Chitkara University campus went viral on September 25, sending students into a frenzy that culminated in a late‑night walkout across Patiala's campus.
Police arrested two activists, Himanshu of Nangal and Aryan of Ambala, on September 26 after tracing their activity in multiple WhatsApp groups that amplified the video. DSP Banur Sukhdev Singh said the arrests followed a forensic review of the messages that linked the duo to the unrest.
An FIR was filed under sections 295A and 120‑B, and the investigation has already named ten other suspects. Authorities are combing through server logs and monitoring social media accounts to identify further participants.
For students, the incident has left a lasting impression. Nisha, a third‑year student, recalled how the 'ghost' clip had spooked her and her peers, leading to a sense of collective outrage that spilled onto the streets.
Police have announced that charges will be filed against the arrested duo, and additional arrests are expected by the end of next week as part of their broader crackdown on misinformation‑driven campus disturbances.
