The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology announced that Gandaki and Lumbini provinces will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall from Friday to Sunday, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.
Senior meteorologist Binod Pokharel explained that while weather models vary on the total rainfall, they all anticipate a risk of flooding, landslides and mudslides.
The forecast also notes that other provinces—Koshi, Bagmati, Madhes—will see normal to moderate rain on September 23 and 24, while Karnali and Sudurpaschim may receive rain from September 25 to 27.
Triked trekkers in mountainous areas were urged to return by Thursday and to consult weather updates before planning excursions.
The warning follows a series of flash floods that devastated the same regions in early September, prompting authorities to mobilize emergency services and set up early warning systems.
