Chennithala said in a televised interview he will file an appeal against the anticipatory bail secured by Judge S. N. Nair, who presides over the District and Sessions Court in Irinjalakuda, after the judge’s 17‑year‑old son allegedly drove a Mercedes Benz into a pedestrian on Sunday morning in Ernakulam, killing Jayabalakrishnan, 55.
The judge argued that his son had no prior knowledge of the vehicle and had only learned to drive from online videos, but the Kerala High Court granted bail after questioning him for four hours, a move that has drawn criticism from both the victim’s family and state officials.
Chennithala slammed the police for their handling of the FIR and the high court for allowing the bail, stating he has already transferred the Kochi police chief and will pursue action against officers suspected of tampering with evidence, underscoring his commitment to “justice for the victim’s family.”
The appeal will be filed with the Kerala High Court in the coming days, where Chennithala’s office seeks not only to revoke the judge’s bail but also to annul the 17‑year‑old son’s anticipatory bail, setting the stage for a high‑profile judicial review.
