Indore election officials deleted 136,552 names from the voter list between January 5 and October 15, 2022, and claimed no digital records were kept. The deletions occurred through the Garud app and ERO Net, yet the constituency offices replied that the required video, DVD, or backup files never existed. This lack of documentation has come under scrutiny amid a broader push to audit electoral rolls.
Former councillor Dilip Kaushal filed an RTI appeal in January 2026, seeking evidence of the deletions. The Madhya Pradesh High Court has now instructed the State Information Commission to decide the appeal within 45 days of receiving a certified copy of the order.
Indore‑4 and Indore‑5 alone accounted for 56,482 deletions, while Rau added 21,346, bringing the total to 77,828 names—nearly 57% of the figures claimed.
The district's response was a blanket denial of record maintenance, citing a lack of Election Commission instructions at the time, while other constituencies cited routine work without preserving the associated media.
The High Court's order sets a deadline for the State Information Commission to issue a decision, a move that could prompt a review of the entire voter roll maintenance process across 230 assembly constituencies.
