Assam Police, citing security concerns, sealed the approach roads to Chowdhury Tila and deployed tear‑gas equipment before the CJP’s volunteer gathering could start.
The move followed the party’s last‑minute relocation from the Assam Shree Parshuram Seva Sadan to Chowdhury Tila after the venue manager withdrew permission under pressure from state officials. The shift left more than 500 volunteers scrambling for a new spot.
On X, Ashutosh Ranka posted a live video of the barricades, accusing the police of targeting the party’s message. "Himanta Mama can't stand sane people talking sanely," he typed, echoing earlier remarks from CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke.
The incident echoes a July 2026 clampdown that saw youth leaders arrested simply for forming a WhatsApp group supporting CJP protests. The state later withdrew five related cases and freed 13 detainees after public backlash.
CJP has called for the immediate, unconditional release of Ranka and all detained volunteers and demands a formal explanation from Assam authorities. The party also vowed to continue its "School Thik Karo" education campaign and outreach to families affected by the Special Revision of electoral rolls.
The Assam government has yet to issue a statement, and the CJP is reportedly preparing a legal challenge to the police’s actions. The next week will see the party convene a press conference at Chowdhury Tila to outline its demands.
