Sanju Dubey, Madhya Pradesh Urban Body's Additional Chief Secretary, blew the whistle on a ₹1.134‑cr GeM purchase scam in a video that went viral last week.
Dubey showed how ward‑level officials bought goods at wildly different prices—dumper trucks for ₹2 lakh in one ward versus ₹6 lakh for the same truck with dustbins in another—creating a ₹250‑cr shortfall that the state Treasury now bears.
He pulled the 1134 crore figure from the portal's records, pointing out that if standard rates had been applied, the state could have saved roughly ₹250 crore this year alone.
MP Minister of State for Urban Administration Pratima Bagri told Times‑Now that her department has formed a high‑level task force to sift through the footage, deciding whether the irregularities amount to fraud or a technical glitch.
Anshuman Raj, a former SDM now at MPSEDC, added that similar over‑pricing has plagued the state for three years, citing LED bulbs sold at 33,500 rupees each versus a market price of 306 rupees.
The probe will begin on July 10, 2026, with the possibility of disciplinary action against implicated officials pending the findings.
