YouTube India Managing Director Gunjan Soni unveiled the platform’s 2025 India impact report on Tuesday, revealing a 20% jump in creators earning seven figures and confirming that 73 percent of creators rely on the site as their primary income source. 2 lakh new channels were monetised for the first time last year, signalling a still‑large funnel and fresh participation across the creative economy.
The report credits YouTube with injecting ₹18,000 crore into India’s economy, supporting nearly one million full‑time equivalent jobs and an additional 300,000 apprentices on the platform. This double‑digit contribution underscores the platform’s role as a major employer and economic catalyst.
A case in point is the channel Simple Ghar, launched in 2022 from a converted room with a single camera. It now employs 35 people, produces content in more than seven languages, and exemplifies how YouTube creators are morphing into media CEOs, a trend that the MD says is becoming the norm.
Soni emphasised that YouTube is investing heavily in nurturing the ecosystem, not just by supporting creation but also by expanding monetisation avenues. She said the company will roll out new tools in Q3 to help creators capture a larger share of revenue.
With the platform’s rapid growth, YouTube’s next move will be the launch of these monetisation features, a move that is expected to further boost the number of high‑earning creators and solidify YouTube’s dominance in India’s digital economy.
