Himachal Pradesh offices shut their doors on October 29. It’s Karwa Chauth, and the state follows its own holiday calendar. If you’re in Jaipur or Mumbai, your bank is likely open, but that map changes fast as we move into November.
The next domino falls in Gujarat. On October 31, banks there will close for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary. This isn’t a nationwide shutdown. It’s a patchwork quilt of regional observances, meaning a customer in Pune checks a different list than someone in Kolkata.
November is where it gets messy. The calendar is packed with Diwali, Laxmi Puja, Guru Nanak Jayanti, and regional festivals like Ningol Chakkouba and Wangala. Dates range from November 9 to November 27. Each state picks its own combos.
Here’s the kicker: your money doesn’t sleep. UPI, ATMs, and net banking stay wide open on these holidays. You can transfer funds, pay bills, and check balances without issue. The only true blockage is for physical tasks: depositing large cash amounts, processing cheques, or getting demand drafts.
Plan accordingly. Check your specific state’s RBI holiday list before driving to the branch. Also, remember that the second and fourth Saturdays of every month are standard banking holidays across India. Don’t waste the trip.
