CEAT’s latest expansion means the Chennai plant can now churn out 22‑inch tyres for ultra‑premium SUVs. That’s a first for an Indian tyre brand, and it gives domestic buyers the chance to equip their large‑rim cars without paying the hefty import premium.
The factory also now produces seven new Truck‑and‑Bus Radial (TBR) sizes, targeting the premium segment in Europe and North America. The wide‑base design cuts vehicle weight and boosts fuel efficiency, a feature that fleet operators in India are already craving as EVs become mainstream.
On the two‑wheel side, CEAT is expanding its premium range with the SportRad Racing Slick for track use and the SportRad ST for touring bikes over 650cc. The ST’s focus on high‑speed stability and cornering grip makes it a serious contender for long‑haul riders.
Sustainability is woven into the new setup: a 9‑MW rooftop solar array, 25 per cent green cover and zero‑liquid‑discharge operations keep the plant eco‑friendly while cutting operating costs.
For buyers, the outcome is two‑fold. First, locally produced 22‑inch tyres could shave a few thousand rupees off the cost of a premium SUV. Second, fleets get access to lighter, more efficient TBRs that can replace the conventional double‑tyre layout, boosting payload and lowering operating expenses.
CEAT plans to roll out the 22‑inch tyre in India by the end of 2026, with early adopters expected among upcoming SUV models that sport large rims. Keep an eye on the launch of electric‑compatible TBRs, as the industry shifts toward greener commercial fleets.
