On September 24, a customer at Radhakrishna Hotel in Borivali claimed that a dead rat had been found inside a Mysore Masala Dosa, prompting an immediate police report. The customer’s brother vomited after discovering the rat, underscoring the shock.
Mansi Acharya, accompanied by two men and a child, recorded the incident on video that later trended on social media.
Within four days, the Food and Drug Administration suspended the hotel’s license on September 28, putting the business on the brink of closure.
Shortly after the suspension, Acharya began receiving threatening calls demanding ₹25 lakh to keep the video private; the hotel owner reluctantly paid ₹6 lakh and filed a police complaint on September 29.
Borivali Police set a trap, luring Acharya to a staged meeting where she again demanded ₹6 lakh; she was arrested in handcuffs, and the case has been referred to the local court for prosecution.
The hotel’s owner remains under pressure, as the Food and Drug Administration has yet to lift the suspension, and a trial is scheduled for early October to determine the extent of the charges.
