
At the SEMICON India 2026 exhibition, Vaishnaw stressed that AI’s user‑safety dimension is far larger than that of traditional physical technologies—an assertion that echoes global concerns about deepfakes, misinformation, and privacy breaches.
He warned that AI can generate content that is hard to verify, leading to fraud and bias, and noted that researchers from OpenAI and Anthropic have highlighted catastrophic risks if powerful systems are left unchecked.
The ministry has already begun consultations with industry leaders, forming a joint task force to examine best practices and regulatory models that balance innovation with safety.
The next phase will see the ministry keep working with industry to shape a comprehensive regulatory approach that protects users while encouraging technological growth.
