Aneet Padda is stepping out of the romance lane, lacing up action boots for a solo ride. She told Variety India she’s tired of the same love‑story formula that made her a household name, and she’s ready to wrestle with supernatural stakes and a vengeance‑driven plot.
Her breakout came in 2025’s Saiyaara, where she shared the screen with Ahaan Panday under Mohit Suri’s direction. The Yash Raj Films production raked in ₹580 crore worldwide and cemented her as a rising star, a feat that made her a sought‑after face for roles that push boundaries.
Now, under Aditya Sarpotdar’s helm, Shakti Shalini throws her into a universe where a bored housewife becomes a protector while a vengeful spirit—Shalini—haunts the male world. The film also features Vishal Jethwa and a posthumous appearance by Nana Patekar, who died on October 8.
Padda says the weight of a solo lead feels like a double‑edged sword: "It’s on my shoulders, and how many women get that chance? I’m lucky to claim this project as mine," she says, hinting at the pressure and privilege that come with owning a film.
Shakti Shalini is the sixth entry in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, a franchise that has blended scares and laughs in a way that keeps Indian audiences hooked. As the December release approaches, fans are already buzzing about how Padda will balance romance, action, and the supernatural, and whether she can match the legacy of the series.
