A 26‑year‑old woman in Bhubaneswar claims she was raped inside her rented flat by a masked intruder who brandished a gun on Wednesday night. She reported that the man breached her home, forced her to lie on the floor and assaulted her before fleeing.
Bhubaneswar DCP Saravana Vivek M said investigators have secured crucial leads and expect to identify the suspect soon. "We have vital clues. The case will be solved soon," he told NDTV, adding that the police are combing through CCTV footage and forensic evidence.
The victim lives alone in a three‑storey building; her elderly sister was away on a trip when the incident occurred. The building owner on the first floor confirmed he was unaware of any disturbance that evening, while the police noted that there were no signs of forced entry.
A suspect has been detained for questioning, but his identity remains undisclosed. The police will file a formal case at the local court once the investigation is complete, and the victim will be allowed to testify under protective custody.
