Bongaigaon SSP Numal Mahatta said Wednesday that nine Bangladeshi nationals were seized at New Bongaigaon Railway Station during a joint police operation.
During questioning, officers uncovered four Bangladeshi identity cards, six mobile phones, a Bangladeshi passport, three counterfeit Indian Aadhaar cards and five railway tickets.
The suspects reportedly crossed into Assam via a neighbouring state and were planning to depart from the same station for employment. “They were planning to go outside for work,” said the SSP.
This operation follows a September 16 crackdown that saw 27 Bangladeshis, including men, women and minors, arrested in Guwahati and Rangiya.
Police chief said all arrests will be pursued under the Citizenship and Immigration Act, and that the crackdown on illegal migration will continue.
One of the arrested men, a 32‑year‑old from Dhaka, said he had no intention of overstaying and planned to return after finding work in Assam.
