Amit Shah on Saturday hailed the Modi government for securing the deportation of narco‑trafficking kingpin Navpreet Singh from Turkey.
Navpreet Singh, who used the alias Navab Virk to acquire Turkish citizenship, had been smuggling heroin and methamphetamine from Afghanistan into India for years.
Shah thanked intelligence agencies that "ripped apart veil after veil" to uncover Singh's true identity and coordinated the extradition. The operation was completed on October 3, 2026.
Earlier this year, the government also forced the return of Mohammad Salim Dola, a close aide of Dawood Ibrahim, from Turkey, and extradited Prabhdeep Singh from Azerbaijan.
India and Turkey signed an extradition treaty in 2001, effective since 2002, allowing the swift transfer of fugitives involved in serious crimes such as terrorism and drug trafficking.
Home Minister Shah reiterated the government's pledge to dismantle every narco‑cartel by December 2029, underscoring a broader crackdown that began with the arrest of the Dola gang.
