In November 2014, DJ and songwriter Moby transferred ownership of the 3.3‑acre Wolf's Lair to an unnamed private buyer, fetching $12.4 million.
Moby had purchased the castle‑like property in 2010 from Jay Faires and Debbie Matenopoulos for $3.925 million, then spent the next four years restoring its 1927‑era architecture while preserving original turrets, coffered ceilings and carved beams.
Perched above Lake Hollywood, the estate offers sweeping views of the Hollywood sign, downtown Los Angeles and the Pacific. It contains a main house, a Lautner‑designed guesthouse, a pool‑house apartment and 6,500 square feet of living space.
The sale, announced by Moby in a December 6, 2014 blog post citing a desire for simplicity, came amid a spike in high‑end transactions in the Hollywood Hills and has since set a new benchmark for luxury real‑estate deals in the neighborhood.
