Bablu Kairi, 42, and his two minor children were found dead inside a locked house in Kakawani Block village, Tingkhong, Dibrugarh district, on Wednesday.
Police were alerted by a neighbor’s call and rushed to the scene, where both doors were locked from the inside. They forced open the doors and entered, finding the father and his 6‑year‑old daughter hanging, while the 8‑year‑old son lay on the floor.
A police officer noted that broken items— a mobile phone, a metal milk container, and kitchen utensils— lay scattered, suggesting a struggle. The scene also contained signs of hurried movement.
Neighbors revealed that Kairi’s wife had left for Chennai about six weeks earlier, leaving the family to fend for themselves. She had gone to work outside the state, leaving the father to look after the children.
Investigators are treating the case as a suspected murder‑suicide; a forensic team has collected evidence, and the bodies are scheduled for post‑mortems to determine cause and time of death.
The next step will be a formal inquiry by the district court, with police expected to present preliminary findings in the coming week.
