September 29, 2024—Justice Sandeep Jain delivered a decisive verdict. The ruling followed a habeas corpus petition by Sudama Devi’s husband, and a missing person report filed at Puranderpur police station on September 9, 2024.
The state police had already deployed a special team to locate the woman, but the investigation stalled. Partly, Sudama is reportedly unsound of mind and lacks a mobile device, complicating contact attempts.
Allegations that Sudama was in illegal custody prompted the court to demand a detailed affidavit from the state. The affidavit, filed on September 29, confirmed that police had made multiple attempts, yet the woman remains untraced.
With the deadline set for December 1, 2026, the court directed the CBI to present findings before that date and ordered state authorities to fully cooperate. Sudama’s husband, who has been anxiously waiting, expressed hope that the CBI’s involvement will bring closure.
The case will be heard again on December 1, 2026, where the court will review the CBI’s progress and decide on further action.
