The chair of India’s parliamentary standing committee on information technology demanded immediate legal action against Meta after it erased a video uploaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his official Facebook page. No apology yet. He told MPs that the removal breached Indian law and urged Mark Zuckerberg personally to apologise, saying the platform’s decision undermined democratic discourse.
The committee had previously flagged concerns over Meta’s handling of political content, citing instances where posts from opposition leaders were taken down without clear justification.
Meta’s spokesperson declined to comment at press time, reiterating that its community‑standards policies apply uniformly across all users.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology announced it will examine the complaint under the Information Technology Act and report its findings to the cabinet within weeks.
