Sharad Subramanyan, a Chennai‑based software engineer, was taken into custody in Hyderabad after police traced 800 bomb‑threat emails sent from fake accounts across India. The messages, flagged by the airport’s security network, targeted airports, government offices, and public venues, prompting a nationwide investigation.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Srikant Goud said the suspect created between 700 and 800 fake email IDs and used them to send threats between 2025 and 2026. He told investigators that personal stress, a recent divorce, and opposition to the Tamil Nadu government’s DMK party spurred the campaign.
The investigation uncovered 42 registered cases linked to the threats, with 25 filed in 2025 and 17 in 2026. The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport police station logged each incident, compelling a coordinated probe across the country.
Subramanyan, who holds a postgraduate degree and worked in the US for three to four years, faces charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Delhi Police are recording his confession, and the case will be heard by the Special CBI Court in Hyderabad. He is currently in custody, awaiting trial, while his ex‑wife grapples with the fallout.
