The inauguration took place on Friday at the new Dharavi Experience Centre, a state‑of‑the‑art complex located in BKC’s PMGP Colony H‑Block, as Fadnavis walked through a scale model of the proposed redevelopment.
The ceremony drew a high‑profile crowd that included Adani Group Managing Director Pranav Adani, BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide, SRA CEO Dr Mahendra Kalyankar, SRA Secretary Vipin Paliwal, and Adani Navbharat Developers CEO Anil Sardana, all of whom are steering the project’s execution.
During his remarks, Fadnavis highlighted Dharavi’s role as a “major economic engine,” pointing to the pottery, leather, food‑processing, and plastic‑recycling industries that sustain the community. He stressed that the redevelopment plan will respect these businesses by providing purpose‑built workspaces.
The centre itself combines physical mock‑ups of future residential blocks, roads, and public amenities with immersive digital displays that map out the new layout. Visitors can walk through a simulated street and view a 360‑degree model of the upgraded Dharavi.
Alongside the technical showcase, the Chief Minister launched a new song, “Dharavi Ka Kal,” performed by Shankar Mahadevan, and unveiled a book titled “Mere Sapno Ki Dharavi,” underscoring the cultural narrative of the area’s transformation.
With the centre now operational, residents will be able to explore the forthcoming changes, ask questions, and provide feedback, setting the stage for a smoother transition as construction is slated to begin in 2027.
