Delhi Police detained more than 700 opposition leaders and activists at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on 29 January, when the city commemorated Gandhi Jayanti.
The protest, demanding the impeachment of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, was denied prior permission under Section 163.
Police erected barricades on Firoz Shah Road and blocked access to key metro stations, while internet services were temporarily suspended across several hubs to curb the gathering.
Manoj Jha was dragged onto a police bus, shouting, "This is all Godse‑vadi people can do on Gandhi Jayanti," while Brinda Karat and Yogendra Yadav slammed the crackdown as "shameful" and a betrayal of Gandhi's legacy.
Delhi Police said the prohibitory order would remain in force until the protest was dispersed, signalling a continued clampdown on dissent in the capital.
