Rahul Gandhi stood inside the Akashvani Bhavan premises on Tuesday, demanding the police specify a location where he could sit as part of his protest against the Election Commission. He had been seated at a nearby spot before officers asked him to vacate, and he insists that a clear venue is essential for his grievances.
He asked if he could sit at India Gate, Jantar Mantar, or even on the road, saying he wanted a defined place to voice his concerns without interference.
The protest is part of a broader opposition campaign that accuses the Election Commission of failing to address electoral roll inaccuracies and other procedural lapses.
Rahul Gandhi said, "I am simply asking the police—fine, if you want to remove me from here, go ahead—but just tell me: where in this country can I sit?" He added that he would comply if a site were designated.
Delhi Police spokesperson Arjun Mehta said they would review protest guidelines and provide a list of permissible sites by the end of the day. The police team also noted that any protest must adhere to public safety protocols.
The opposition plans to resume the rally on Wednesday, pending police clearance. The next protest is scheduled for 10 a.m. at a location to be confirmed by the authorities.
