House of Hope Resale, a nonprofit thrift shop in Barrington, has turned donated goods into cash for families in crisis, processing more than 100,000 items since its founding.
Every day, a team of 200 unpaid volunteers runs the store floor, handling everything from intake to checkout, according to the nonprofit’s website.
All revenue is directed to Project Hope’s emergency assistance program, which covers rent, utilities, prescriptions, and groceries for residents facing sudden hardship.
To keep the volunteer base growing, the shop hosts recruitment events, including a volunteer pop‑up in September 2026, and regular meet‑and‑greet sessions.
The next volunteer pop‑up will open September 15, 2026, as the nonprofit gears up for its annual donation drive.
