On October 2, Shivaji Park resident and lawyer Siddhi Deolekar lodged a formal complaint at the Shivaji Park Police Station against CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, co‑convenor Ashutosh Ranka, Saurav Das and another organizer for planning an unauthorized protest.
The complaint follows the CJP’s decision to stage a protest at Mumbai’s iconic Shivaji Park on Gandhi Jayanti, calling for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and other grievances. Mumbai Police had earlier denied the organisers permission, citing Bombay High Court directions under PIL 116/2009 and a Maharashtra government order that restricts gatherings at the park.
Deolekar, describing herself as a ‘responsible Shivaji Park citizen’, alleged that the protest would violate court orders and constitutional provisions, stating that ‘no ideology, no political campaign and no individual is above the law’.
Despite the denial, CJP activists assembled thousands of young men and women at Shivaji Park, drawing a heavy police presence and barricading access from Dadar railway station. The group succeeded in entering the park, defying the police directive.
Police have now registered the complaint and the case will be forwarded to the Mumbai Police CID for investigation. The CJP has announced it will continue its agitation until the resignation of the election commissioner is secured.
