Justice Sudhir Kumar Saxena has been named by the Supreme Court to preside over a single-member panel that will verify the entitlement of 863 flat claimants in Noida, a decision that follows a protracted dispute that began in 2022.
In 2022 the Court directed the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority to allot multi-storeyed flats to 844 Society members and to examine the claims of 133 subsequent purchasers. Subsequent filings altered those numbers to 863 original members and 120 later buyers, a change that the Authority and the Society could not reconcile.
The panel is empowered to devise its own procedure, request documents, and hear claimants. It must submit a report within eight weeks, and NOIDA has been ordered to provide full logistical and secretarial support.
The court has scheduled a follow-up hearing for 2 December, when the committee’s findings will be presented and the Authority’s compliance will be assessed.
For one of the affected families, the dispute has meant living in a cramped room while awaiting a legal resolution; the panel’s work offers a path toward a definitive settlement that could finally free them from uncertainty.
