Ashutosh Ranka, co‑convener of the Cockroach Janta Party, replied to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s X post, praising a video that showcased a newly built government school with modern classrooms, a library and a sports complex. The CM’s footage, filmed in Guwahati, highlighted the state’s push for infrastructure upgrades in public education. Ranka called it a "good one" and urged the CM to replicate the model across the state.
But Ranka also pressed the CM to address glaring neglect elsewhere, pointing to two schools in Dispur and Rampur that he had inspected during a recent visit. Both schools were in "terrible" condition, he said, with broken benches, leaking roofs and a lack of basic sanitation. He added that every child in Assam should have access to quality education.
The move follows a series of infrastructure announcements by Sarma’s government, which last month unveiled a ₹4,200 crore plan to refurbish over 200 schools statewide. Critics argue that funding is still unevenly distributed, especially in rural districts.
Ranka’s critique has drawn attention from opposition leaders, who say the CM’s promises have not translated into tangible improvements in remote areas. Sarma’s office has yet to issue a formal response to the call for repairs.
With the state’s general elections slated for November, the CM faces pressure to demonstrate concrete progress. Ranka expects the CM to act before the end of the month, a timeline that could shape voter sentiment.
