At 6:55 p.m. on October 14, Richmond Hill Police arrived at the Cabello residence after a 911 call. Officers found five‑year‑old Fabiana Cabello unresponsive on the second floor, her nose bleeding and pupils dilated. The child was immediately transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where doctors pronounced her dead a short time later.
An autopsy released by the Queens County Coroner’s Office revealed petechiae in the eyes, heart and lungs, and bruising around the face, findings consistent with asphyxiation. The report noted bruises that could have been inflicted in a struggle, prompting a murder investigation.
Fabiana’s father, Kuldeep Singh, has set up a GoFundMe campaign on October 20 to cover funeral costs. In a heartfelt post, Singh said, “I loved my daughter very much, and losing her feels like I lost my whole world.” He added that he is working as an Uber driver while managing the funeral arrangements.
Francis Cabello’s brother, Franklin Cabello, told the New York Post that his sister had been dealing with psychological issues and had stopped taking prescribed medication. He added, “I knew something was wrong when she stopped taking the medicine; I never imagined she could harm her child.”
Uncle Punraj Singh recalled Fabiana as “loving and joyful,” describing how the child often visited their apartment and helped his grandmother with simple tasks. He said she would hug nurses at doctor's appointments and that the family would never want to lose her.
Queens County Police are continuing the investigation, and the case will be heard by a Manhattan criminal court in early November. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for the first week of December.
