The Fresh POCSO case was registered on October 21 after a 12‑year‑old girl filed a complaint in Chennai, prompting police to book granite baron Veeramani for alleged sexual abuse.
Veeramani was first detained by the Greater Chennai Anti‑Vice Squad on August 29, followed by the arrest of accomplice Shanthi. Mahendrasimhan and Ganesan were taken into custody on September 22, while three drivers who transported the minors were arrested on October 5. The company manager Sakthivel was apprehended on October 18, bringing the total number of arrests to eight.
A Special Investigation Team has been interrogating the suspects at the Peravallur police station, examining seized video footage and other evidence. To prevent flight risk, Look‑Out Circulars have been issued against five accused and suspected individuals.
In a related move, Veeramani’s daughter, Archana, was questioned about her father’s alleged financial transactions that might have been used to evade legal action.
The police will file a chargesheet once the SIT completes its interrogation, after which the case will move to the Chennai civil court for a preliminary hearing.
