Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on 28 October 2026 that the Indian government has deported Narco‑kingpin Navpreet Singh from Turkey. The move came after intelligence agencies traced the criminal’s false Turkish citizenship, under the alias Navab Virk. Singh had been using the identity to smuggle heroin and methamphetamine from Afghanistan into India for years. Shah congratulated the agencies that uncovered the trail.
The operation was part of a broader crackdown that saw Gujarat Anti‑Terrorism Squad, Indian Coast Guard and central intelligence teams seize 526 kg of heroin and meth from an Iranian vessel in the Arabian Sea. Five Pakistani nationals aboard the boat were also arrested. The seizure highlighted the transnational nature of the drug trade that serves Indian markets.
Singh is now in Indian custody and faces charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. He will be tried in a special narcotics court in Delhi, with prosecutors planning a hearing in early 2027.
Shah reiterated the Modi government’s pledge to eradicate all narco‑cartels by December 2029, citing the operation as evidence of tight inter‑agency coordination. He urged the public to remain vigilant against drug trafficking.
