The leadership shake-up at ICICI Prudential Life is official. Siddhartha Mishra will step into the MD & CEO chair for a five-year stint. This isn't a surprise hire. He’s an internal ICICI Group candidate, a fact that CNBC-TV18 flagged in an earlier report. The board has made the call, and the regulatory filings back it up.
The timeline is tight but precise. Mishra assumes the role of Chief Operating Officer on October 6, 2026. He takes full command of the MD & CEO role on October 14. Or, if the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) approval comes later, that date governs. Currently, he heads Digital Channels & Partnerships, NRI, and IFIG businesses at ICICI Bank. His background is in digital distribution and strategic partnerships—areas where insurers are fighting for share in a crowded, tech-driven market. He joins the board as an Additional Director immediately.
Out goes Anup Bagchi. His tenure ends on October 13. He’s moving to HDFC Bank. His time at ICICI Prudential Life saw the insurer expand significantly, even as the life insurance sector grappled with regulatory overhauls and shifting distribution models. The transition is clean. Bagchi leaves, Mishra steps in. No overlap in the MD role.
Mishra brings over two decades of finance experience to the table. He holds a postgraduate diploma in management (finance) from Utkal University in Bhubaneswar. His appointment is subject to final regulatory and other approvals. For investors, the key takeaway is continuity within the ICICI ecosystem. The insurer is betting on digital-first leadership to drive its next phase of growth.
