The chargesheet, submitted to the Pune court on 18 June, lays out a conspiracy that began with an aborted plan to break Agarwal's limbs. Siya Goyal, her lover Chetan Chaudhary, and accused Ritesh Hange allegedly shifted to murder after a friend of Hange voiced opposition.
The trio reportedly turned to digital resources, scouring ChatGPT‑generated scripts and crime‑podcasts to learn how to evade detection. They even listened to podcasts on surveillance avoidance before finalizing the kill.
Hange’s creation of a fake Instagram handle named "Mahi" lured Agarwal to Lohagad Fort on 18 June under the pretense of a birthday surprise. Earlier, on 6 June, Goyal tore Agarwal’s passport in a cafe’s washroom, thwarting a pre‑wedding photoshoot.
An unnamed eyewitness claims to have seen Agarwal pushed into the gorge and later threatened by Chaudhary, prompting the police to file statements five days after the incident.
Senior lawyer Ujjwal Nikam will be appointed as the Special Public Prosecutor, and the prosecution plans to seek a life sentence. The first court hearing is scheduled for 30 September 2024.
