Jailer 2 is making a splash overseas, outpacing even the original Jailer in foreign markets.
Day one net in India was ₹59.70 crore, but by Friday the figure slid to ₹35.60 crore – a drop of more than forty percent. The film played 16,599 shows on opening day, then slipped to 13,157 on day two, a 20.7% fall in screen count. Tamil screens grabbed a solid 63% occupancy overall, with night showings hitting 85.92%.
On Friday alone, the film raked in ₹40 crore from overseas markets, pushing its global total past ₹200 crore. In opening weekend overseas, Jailer 2 collected ₹55 crore, placing it in the top three for Tamil cinema’s biggest overseas openings. It surpassed Vijay’s The Greatest of All Time and Rajinikanth’s own 2023 Jailer, though still trailing behind Coolie and Leo.
While the 2023 Jailer netted ₹25.75 crore in India on day two and reached ₹142.53 crore worldwide by the same point, its sequel is already eclipsing those numbers, thanks to a stronger global appeal and cameo from Hrithik Roshan.
Despite the domestic boom, the Hindi version has hit a snag as multiplex chains balked over the OTT window, refusing to screen the film, and the standoff has stalled its Hindi theatrical run.
Bottom line? Rajinikanth still rules the box office, and Jailer 2’s worldwide surge proves the superstar’s magnetism is unshakable.
