KIND, an NGO founded in 2008 by actress Angelina Jolie and Microsoft, helped more than 17,000 migrant children secure legal representation across the United States and Mexico in 2026.
The organization’s pro‑bono lawyers, drawn from law firms, universities, and bar associations, stepped in to protect children like Aryad, a 16‑year‑old refugee who fled conflict in Africa and reached the Polish border alone.
Aryad, after being identified as an unaccompanied minor, was placed in foster care and, with KIND’s lawyer, navigated the asylum process—an experience that now sees him pursuing vocational training.
Beyond legal aid, KIND runs psychosocial support programs that have reached over 30,000 children and families, providing counseling, medical care, and schooling across its seven U.S. offices and beyond.
KIND’s July 2026 report highlighted that 78,000 children were educated about legal rights, and the organization plans to keep expanding its network to ensure that migration systems recognize these minors as children first.
