Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, told a press conference on May 10, 2026 that the state will issue over 100,000 new government job openings within the next six months, as part of a push to reduce the 7.7 percent youth unemployment rate recorded in 2025.
The announcement comes after Yogi cited a cumulative 950,000 positions filled since 2017, the largest share of which went to police and education sectors—225,000 police recruits and 150,000 teachers and assistant teachers.
Akhilesh Yadav, president of the Samajwadi Party, slammed the numbers as a "political stunt" and questioned why the state’s unemployment statistics still lag behind the national average, which stood at 9.9% in 2025.
The government said it will publish a transparent recruitment plan on its official portal next month, and that applications for the new positions will open on June 15, 2026.
With the state assembly elections looming in early 2027, the new job scheme is expected to be a key point of contention between the ruling BJP and the opposition SP, as both parties gear up for a hard-fought electoral battle.
