Delhi Police announced on Tuesday that it will set up a dedicated Pink Force to patrol schools, colleges, metro stations and other vulnerable locations across the capital.
The directive follows four separate alleged rape or sexual assault incidents involving minors that were reported in Delhi over the past ten days, the latest involving a 17‑year‑old girl at Astha Kunj Park near Kalkaji Mandir.
Lt Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu told police officials that the new unit will model itself after Goa Police’s Pink Force, deploying trained women officers at identified hotspots, particularly during vulnerable hours.
Delhi Police has previously deployed women patrols on scooters and beat rounds around educational institutions and metro hubs, but the new structure aims to give the initiative a formal status and clearer mandate.
The announcement follows a spate of high‑profile cases, including a 16‑year‑old girl allegedly gang‑raped and murdered in Swaroop Nagar, a 6‑year‑old girl assaulted in Kishanganj, and a minor assaulted inside a shop in Sadar Bazar.
Police will also continue Operation Shishtachar, digitise complaints under the Jan Sunwai programme, and increase foot and motorcycle patrols in crime‑prone areas, with a nodal officer in each district to prepare quarterly safety calendars.
The Pink Force remains at the planning stage; its size, launch date and district‑wise deployment are yet to be announced, but the police have pledged that the force will be operational as soon as the framework is finalised.
