On 19 October 2026, India’s Ministry of External Affairs rejected a resolution adopted by the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) during a two‑day meeting in Baghdad. The resolution contained references to Jammu and Kashmir that India says are malicious and fabricated.
"The references to India are malicious, biased, and false, and have been orchestrated by Pakistan," the MEA said in a statement. "We are disappointed that the OIC has once again allowed itself to be misused by Pakistan for its bigoted agenda," it added.
India’s stance is anchored in the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, which dissolved the former state of Jammu and Kashmir and split it into the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The ministry highlighted that both territories are integral and inalienable parts of the country, citing recent infrastructure and tourism growth as evidence of progress.
The MEA also accused Pakistan of unleashing violence, repression and brutality on civilian protesters in Pakistan‑occupied Jammu and Kashmir, alleging that scores of people, including women and children, were killed. It condemned the media blackout imposed by Islamabad, claiming it obscures grave human‑rights violations.
India criticized the OIC’s endorsement of what it described as "patently malicious propaganda" and questioned the organisation’s credibility. The ministry urged member states to reform the OIC and demanded that Pakistan vacate its illegal occupation and cease supporting cross‑border terrorism.
India will lodge a formal protest with the OIC and is expected to bring the issue before the UN Human Rights Council for a review of Pakistan’s conduct in the occupied territory.
